2008-2009
This has been a very busy year for Josh both at school and on the golf course. At the start of the season in March he had a fine performance at Branston Golf Club finishing 1st in medal with a gross score of 77.
In April Josh went to the British Junior Golf Tours Winter Final at the Forest of Arden and came 2nd in the U10. Early May saw him become the youngest player to win the Burton Mail Centenary Cup.
Continuing his busy schedule Josh traveled to Scotland later in May to play in the U.S. Kids European Tour, competing against players from all over the world. After a poor 1st round he pulled himself together and on the final day he came in with a 69, 3 shots under par! This put him into second place and the highest European in the U11’s.
In June he won the Junior Trevor Wass and a Junior Stapleford at Branston.
July arrived and Josh flew out to San Diego to represent England in the Callaway Junior World Competition. After a good start on day one finishing 1 over it was all down to the 2nd day. Another early start saw him finish with a 6 over and missing the cut by 1 shot. Eventually he finished T41.
August was a very busy month. Josh worked hard to get his handicap down to 5 he was subsequently accepted for the EGU Reid Trophy and the NE England U16 Championships at Heswall. Being the youngest player at both competitions he finished with results to be proud of.
Josh was approached to to play at the P.G.A. Par 3 Championships at Nailcote Hall where he and his pro finished 4th.
At Burton Golf Club he also became the youngest player to win the Derbyshire Boys U16 Competition with a score of 156 after 36 holes. Towards the end of August Josh went to the Celtic Manor in the British Junior Golf Tours Summer Final coming home as Tour Champion for the second year running.
Josh is a member of Branston, Broughton Heath and Burton Golf Clubs and this year has won all three Junior Club Championships. In September he was crowned Broughton Heath Club Champion with rounds of 60 + 61.
He has had a very successful season with the Derbyshire County side and has earned himself a place in the EGU winter training schedule, which aims to get him in a full England squad in the next two years.
Josh’s hard work and dedication has seen his handicap drop to a remarkable 4.2.
