About Josh
How Josh Got Started
Josh had his first group lesson at Belmont Driving Range in 2002 at the age of 5. Carl, the pro said he had never seen anyone so young with such a good swing. After a few lessons it was obvious he had a better eye for the ball than some of the older children. Carl advised Josh’s parents to take Josh to a larger club that could offer more.
Taking this advice Josh joined Branston Golf & Country in 2003. After a few lessons they were very impressed and a few months later offered him a 12 month scholarship. Ian Walley took Josh under his guidance and his game soon improved. At the age of 6 Josh was playing a full 9 hole course and entering competitions.
Josh continued training hard on the driving range until he started the YMG training courses in 2003. Dedicating his time and effort he passed all their qualifications up to Masters with distinction. His game improved so significantly with these lessons that in March 2005 he played on the full 18 hole par 72 course and finished a remarkable 122. This was when he became a full member.
In 2006 he joined Broughton Heath Golf Club and started having lessons with Andy Hyland. He was so amazed at how much natural talent Josh had for the game. Within his first year he was a regular member of the Junior Team. He was still impressing people with his competition results that he had his name put forward for the County.
In 2007 he got his first call to attend training with Derbyshire County and was soon being selected to play in the team. When asked to go to Woodhall Spa for training with the England Coach his natural ability was noticed - being told that he was one of the best 10 year olds ever seen, a massive boost for Josh.
With confidence on a high, Josh dedicates most weekends traveling around playing in competitions, whilst still under the guidance of Andy Hyland.
